Uruguay is among the top 10 countries in the world in renewable energy initiatives

The latest report by Ocean Science & Technology, which measures innovation and the number of patents related to projects related to renewable energies, places Uruguay in eighth place worldwide.
The study highlights that Uruguay experienced notable progress in the adoption of renewable energies.
It points out that 98% of the country’s energy comes from renewable sources and that it currently marks an important step towards the second energy transformation.
Uruguay is not only self-sufficient in terms of renewable energy, but also exports its surpluses to neighboring countries such as Argentina, the report stresses.
Globally, in the period analyzed, the report recorded a 76% increase in renewable energy patent processes, reaching a total of 61,790 patents in 2021.
In the case of Uruguay, its participation in the world ranking reflects its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the energy sector.
“As part of a region that leads in the adoption of clean energy, Uruguay is consolidating itself as a global benchmark in the transition to a more sustainable and efficient energy future,” says Ocean Science & Technology.
When analyzing the years 2020 and 2021 in a total of 81 countries, the report reveals that Latin America is among the most advanced regions in the world in projects related to renewable energy.
In fact, more than a quarter of primary energy comes from renewable sources, twice the global average.
Along with Chile, Ecuador and Guatemala, Uruguay leads in Latin America, while the global top 10 is completed by China, the Philippines, Cyprus, the United States, India and Croatia.
